Kuching City, capital
of the land of the hornbills, is home to around 600,000 residents.
The city is lush with trees and greenery, well-planned, peaceful
and its citizens are prosperous in a business friendly environment.

The city of Kuching has been very progressive
and fast developing in the last two decades. It is an investment
hub, a regional trade center and a gateway for Northwest Borneo.
It is an eco-tourism destination.
In the heart of Kuching, there is an area called
the Historic district. It lies at the heart of the City centered
by the present day Tourism Complex. Many important heritage sites
and landmarks are located here such as the Astana, Square Tower,
Sarawak Museum, Post Office, Padang Merdeka, the Waterfront Esplanade,
Gambier Road, Main Bazaar, India & Carpenter Streets with its
various shops.
This district is connected via the waterfront
and the Carpenter Street Chinatown area to the business district.
This old riverfront was characterized by dilapidated godowns and
jetties, dirty mud flaps and eroded riverbanks. This has been transformed
into a beautiful landscaped esplanade. Stretching over a 1 km long,
the Kuching Waterfront has become an integral part of the city
with facilities for entertainment, refreshment, relaxation, cultural
enjoyment and arts appreciation. It is a great place for family
gatherings or just for a leisurely walk. Along the waterfront,
multiple pontoon jetties serve to connect both sides of the river
by water taxis.
